Capacitor Evaluation Instrument Module

The DM511 Instrument Module is part of the integrated CE9051 system for evaluating the quality and reliability of capacitors.  The instrument module consists of an instrument card, power supply, and system interface.

Features include:

  • 100 Constant Voltage Drivers
  • 5 Independent Stress Groups
  • 50 to 600 Volts DC Stress
  • Electronic Fuse Circuits
  • Operator-Set Termination Point
  • Test to Destruction or Preserve Failure Region
  • Microprocessor Controlled
  • User Calibrated
  • Meets JEDEC Standards

Parallel Processing

Each instrument card performs its tests independently of other instrument cards in the system (parallel processing).  Therefore, the time between sequential measurements of each test node is kept to an absolute minimum, regardless of the total number of capacitors under test in the entire system.  Each DM511 card features 100 independent test positions.

Noise

The DM511 offers excellent current resolution in a low noise environment.  System noise level is below 6µV (-72dB).  Stress is provided by a low-noise, high-resolution, 50 to 600 volt power supply.  Leakage currents from 10pA to 1mA may be determined on a statistically significant number of parts.

On-Board Microprocessor

An on-board microprocessor performs all measurements, signal multiplexing, and termination condition setting and monitoring.  It also provides communications with the controller computer, including test result reporting. The timing resolution of termination conditions is within milliseconds regardless of the number of independent instrument modules operating in the system.

Fuse Technology

The instrument card features an electronic fuse circuit for each DUT position, an innovation which allows control of the test in minute detail. As an example, instead of testing the capacitor to destruction, test parameters may be set to preserve the failure site by stopping the test prior to total failure.
